Turns out my thoughts about Tech Law were correct, that it is a fast growing field that lacks many qualified lawyers. As I spoke with an I.P. Lawyer this afternoon, I found out that there are so few I.P. Lawyers with engineering/cs backgrounds that it’s pretty much like an exclusive club for those who enter the field. The pay is excellent and the fear of a bubble bursting in the sector isn’t really there. In fact, I was told that in both upturns and downturns in the economy, companies will always want to go to the extra lengths to secure their intellectual property.

Suffice to say, I was pretty stoked about how well the call went with the guy. If I can get into a pretty good law school and keep my grades up, I may be able to land a sweet job there. Only time will tell though, but at the moment I’m feeling pretty good about the odds.

In the world of web development, many things come and go out of style at an amazing rate. However, there is one thing that has always stayed the same:

Content is King.

That is to say, it doesn’t matter how flashy a website is, if it lacks content, it will be little more than a flash in the pan. But why? I think the answer to that is that creating flashy items requires a lot of time, effort, and money. It takes time to constantly come up with something new to impress visitors. Relying on anything other than content causes you to run the risk of boring your visitors with the same ole damn raz-ma-taz. It’s cool the first, second, and maybe third time…but after that, most people will find themselves thinking…”Where’s the beef?”

Quality content, on the other hand, can be developed consistently on a regular basis. Instead of focusing on presentation, the focus is shifted towards providing content that people can use and access easily. Nobody wants to wait on content. There are hundreds of other websites out there that will provide the same information without the unnecessary delays.

To put it bluntly, flashy items, usually, stand between the user and what they want to access.

True professionals will understand this fact and develop accordingly. All others are effectively flushing their money down the drain.
